USEFUL RESOURCES
THE WILD COOK
- Local wild food expert, Mawera says "In the
pages of this website you will encounter many recipes which have been
developed over the years and are the end result of my wild and
passionate love affair with food.... all of the main ingredients have either been hunted-for, gathered or grown by my family. ENJOY!" You can contact Mawera on mawera@thewildcook.co.nz and join The Wild Cook experience on Facebook, too.
KAIWAKA ORGANICS - Romy at Kaiwaka Gardens is passionate about organics, food politics and the preservation of heritage seeds, plants and trees, following on the work of Bob Corker & Kay Baxter who established the shop as the original Koanga Garden store. Plenty of inspiration HERE.... for fruit trees, and HERE.. for Koanga Institute seeds and plants.
FRUIT & FOOD SHARE MAP "Tonnes of food around NZ goes to waste every year, as trees produce fruit which is never picked or eaten." Use Michael Brenndorfer's interactive GOOGLE map to highlight fruit/nut trees, and other natural urban food/resource sources. This map is open for editing by anyone.

Heritage Seeds from Koanga Institute
Koanga Institute has been collecting and growing old fruit trees, vegetables, and flowers for 25 years. In particular the seeds they have been saving are our own New Zealand Heirlooms, the seeds that have been saved by our own grandparents, in the soil and climatic conditions of this land. They are the strongest seeds we have, with the widest genetic diversity, and have been developed over thousands of years to sustain and support human life.
